Memories #10 and #11
➠ Memory #10: ☆ "I'm gonna forget I saw that" [Note: About not blowing our cover ↔ Episode 2x13] (Trivial Neutral)
[Won in Game #131 (Sharable: 1/2)]
What he remembered/learned:
- They're trying to get into Ba Sing Se using fake identifications and his uncle flirts with the woman in charge of approving them. ZUKO SURE WISHES HE DIDN'T HAVE TO SEE THAT.
- Li and Mushi are legit names.
- Waiting for the transport to get into the Earth Kingdom capital.
- Uncle complains about the cold tea he just paid for.
- That weird guy from that previous memory approaches Zuko to try to make him join his gang, the Freedom Fighters, Zuko turns him down with "I don't think you want me to join your gang."
- When he gets back to his uncle, the tea he was drinking his mysteriously hot because he secretly used firebending, and Zuko is sure that weird guy noticed.
- Tosses his uncle's tea to the ground for that stupid move and . . . his uncle is . . . himself about it . . .
- AND THEN THEY GO TO BA SING SE.
What this means:
This memory covers some blanks in his memory and offers more details about his uncle and himself. If anything, it gives him less patience for stupid things in general? But the memory in itself had not much of an impact.
➠ Memory #11: ☆ "Out of my way, skinny!" [Note: About leaving things behind ↔ Episode 2x17 & 2x18] (Significant Neutral)
[Won in Game #134 (Sharable: 0/2)]
What he remembered/learned:
- Another memory of the time he's pretending to be a refugee in Ba Sing Se, waiting tables at a tea shop with his uncle and hiding the fact he's a firebender.
- Two men approach his uncle about giving him his own tea shop. Uncle accepts.
- Zuko couldn't care less about this new development, so he goes outside and he finds a flier of the Avatar looking for Appa. He seems to get his motivation back.
- He gets into an argument with his uncle, while Iroh wants to make a new life in Ba Sing Se, it's obviously not what Zuko wants. They argue about it: "I want my destiny" "What that means is up to you."
- However, Zuko ignores his uncle advice, dresses up as the Blue Spirit and goes out during the night to find Appa. He captures someone in order to obtain information and infiltrate Lake Laogai, the base of operations for the Dai Li (the ones that control Ba Sing Se, basically).
- I'M ASSUMING ZUKO FINDS OUT ABOUT HOW FUCKED UP THE EARTH KINGDOM CAPITAL ACTUALLY IS HERE. But he doesn't care outside of finding Appa.
- Except that, right after he finds Appa, Iroh gets inside and makes Zuko reveal his identify.
- ANOTHER ARGUMENT!!!!!!! His uncle confronts him about Zuko's inability to think things through sometimes, especially when it comes to his obsession with his "destiny."
- Apparently he actually captured Aang before at the North Pole and he nearly died there? IS THIS A THEME?!
- UNCLE MAKES THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS: "Who are you? And what do you want?"
- ALL THE ANGER AND FRUSTRATION.
- Zuko sets Appa free and when they get back to their apartment Zuko collapses with a high fever.
- He gets nightmares and seems in pain for at least a day. His uncle say it's an ~internal~ conflict that he needs to overcome.
- AS A NOTE: Zuko doesn't see himself with scars in those nightmares, not even when he "woke" up and saw himself in the mirror with Aang's blue arrows as if he were the Avatar.
- When he finally wakes up, he makes sure that his scar is still there.
What this means:
This memory is huge because it makes Zuko aware of who he was for a long time: someone fixated on walking down a path he thought he had to take. He still doesn't understand the main motivation behind capturing Aang, but he knows he had no choice and that he had to get what he's lost back. It might be difficult for Zuko to be actually aware of it, but he has a tendency to decide on what he thinks he should be and do anything he can to stay that way. It's happening in Aather already, too, since being part of Ruby and his own role within the team is an important aspect of himself just like being heir of the Fire Nation. His role in the team defines him, and right now it's not a negative thing, but it the potential is there.
Another important thing is that he decided to set Appa free instead of capturing it himself. He chose to let Appa go and that's what started that emotional turmoil. Zuko so it sets him in the right direction to fight rather than let himself lost. The nightmares are also very relevant, since his sister's voice is what seems to encourage him to give up and let go (probably die, since he was dealing with a high fever?) and his uncle's voice is what was pushing him to continue. The part that involves the blue arrows in the memory was also a hint at Zuko's connection to the Avatar, since he's a descendant of Avatar Roku, but he has no idea yet. Zuko won't be able to make sense of it outside of feeling fear.
However, Zuko's mental state in Aather won't be compromised with this memory. It will mostly show him how much he's changed and make him consider what is important to him right now.
